Miramar Beach
Panaji, India

Miramar Beach is Panaji's city beach, lying where the Mandovi River meets the Arabian Sea. Formerly known as Gaspar Dias, it is a long stretch of soft sand lined with palm trees, about three kilometres from the city centre. From the beach, visitors can see Fort Aguada across the river mouth. Because of its location, Miramar is more a place for evening walks, sunsets and street food than for swimming, as currents at the river mouth can be strong. A promenade and gardens run along the beachfront, popular with families and joggers. Nearby is the Goa Science Centre and the road leading south to Dona Paula. The beach is busiest in the evening, when locals come to enjoy the sea breeze. It is worth the trip for a relaxed sunset close to the capital.
