Mapusa Friday Market is the traditional weekly market of Mapusa, the main commercial town of Bardez. Unlike the tourist-oriented flea markets, it is a genuine local bazaar where villagers from across North Goa come to buy and sell produce. Friday is the busiest day, when the market spills out across the streets around the municipal market building. Stalls sell fresh fish, vegetables, fruit, spices, Goan sausages, local sweets, pottery and household goods. It is one of the best places to see everyday Goan life and to buy local specialities such as chouriço and cashew products. Vendors from neighbouring states also bring textiles and other goods. The market is busiest in the morning, which is the best time to visit. It is worth the trip for an authentic, colourful market experience away from the beaches.
