It is a multipurpose stadium used mainly for football, which is the most popular sport in Goa. It is the home ground of FC Goa in the Indian Super League. The stadium hosted matches of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 and the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2022. It has also hosted international cricket matches.
