Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in Ponda taluka is the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa, covering about 8 square kilometres of forest in the foothills of the Western Ghats. It was declared a sanctuary in 1969. Bondla is known as a family-friendly nature destination, with a mini zoo, a deer safari park and a botanical garden. The forests are home to gaur, sambar, barking deer, wild boar and many bird species. Nature trails let visitors walk through moist deciduous and evergreen forest. There is also a small rescue centre for injured animals. Forest Department accommodation is available for overnight stays. It is worth the trip for an accessible taste of Goa's forests, especially with children.
