Benaulim Beach lies just south of Colva in Salcete taluka and is known for its calmer, more traditional atmosphere. According to local legend, Benaulim is where the arrow shot by Lord Parashurama landed when he reclaimed the land of Goa from the sea. The beach is wide and sandy, with fishing boats pulled up on the shore and a relaxed village feel. It is popular for swimming, sunbathing and dolphin-spotting boat trips. Benaulim village has a strong Goan Catholic identity and is home to the Goa Chitra Museum. Shacks and guesthouses serve fresh seafood, and the area is quieter than Colva. The beach is good for long walks along the open coastline. It is worth the trip for a peaceful beach with local character.
