The Anjuna Flea Market is a weekly open-air market held on Wednesdays near Anjuna Beach in Bardez. It began in the hippie era, when travellers living in Anjuna gathered to sell or swap their belongings to fund their stay. Over the decades it has grown into one of Goa's best-known markets, with hundreds of stalls spread over a large area near the sea. Traders come from across India, including Kashmiri, Tibetan and Rajasthani sellers, alongside local vendors. Goods include textiles, jewellery, handicrafts, spices, clothing and souvenirs. Bargaining is expected, and the market is as much about the atmosphere as the shopping. Food stalls, live music and cafes add to the scene through the day. The market runs during the tourist season, roughly from November to April. It is worth the trip for a lively slice of Goa's counterculture history and some good finds.
