Anheuser-Busch Brewery

The Anheuser-Busch Brewery in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis is the historic flagship of one of the world's largest brewing companies. The company traces its roots to the 1850s, and Adolphus Busch helped build it into a national empire, introducing Budweiser in 1876. The sprawling campus includes several National Historic Landmark buildings, most notably the ornate Brew House and the Clydesdale stables. Free tours lead visitors through the brewing process, the historic buildings, and the famous stables that house the company's iconic Clydesdale horses. The red-brick architecture, with its towers and detailed ironwork, reflects nineteenth-century industrial grandeur. Tastings are offered at the end of the tour for those of legal age. The Clydesdales, used in advertising and parades, are a beloved symbol closely tied to the brand and the city. The complex has operated continuously for well over a century, surviving Prohibition by producing other goods. Its scale and history make it a landmark of American industry. It remains one of St. Louis's most popular attractions.
